As the death toll in Gaza passes 7,000 – including 3,000 children – actions to stop the genocide of Palestinians are escalating worldwide. Hundreds of thousands of people are demonstrating across Indonesia, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, Morocco, Lebanon, Indonesia, Malaysia, Chile and beyond. Mass actions have taken place throughout Europe (including among European Jews) calling for an immediate ceasefire. College students at 100 campuses across the United States walked out of class in protest of the ongoing assault. Palestine Action is holding direct actions at Israeli weapons manufacturers. Palestinian trade unions issued a call for international solidarity among workers – and workers are responding. Kids on the Lego-like virtual world of Roblox are even holding demonstrations with their avatars.
There are also many reports of censorship and repression of pro-Palestinian actions, including in India, where pro-Israeli demonstrations are proceeding but pro-Palestinian rallies are being broken up by police. France banned pro-Palestinian demonstrations at the outset of Israel’s counterattack. One media giant pressured the editors in its conglomerate network to downplay Palestinian deaths. It is possible that Israel deliberately targeted the family of Al Jazeera‘s Arabic bureau chief. And #StarLink4Gaza trended on X (Twitter) as users managed to pressure Elon Musk into including humanitarian aid groups on StarLink to break the social media and communications blackout in Gaza.
While this crisis continues to hold the world’s attention (and rightly so), other significant struggles continue. A group of 57 activists condemned the calls for war with Iran issued by US politicians. Over 100 Nigerian women protested for peace and the end of an armed militia’s occupation of their region. The families of active duty Ukrainian soldiers held rallies calling on the government to pass a law that would demobilize active duty personnel after 18 months. Icelandic women held a general strike, harkening back to their historic 1975 “Women’s Day Off” that made them the world’s leader in gender equality while refusing to rest on any laurels as they pursue full equality.

Around 200,000 people turned out for the Orlando Pride March, taking a firm stand as their right-wing officials continue to promote and pass anti-LGBTQ laws.
